How to Create a New Application Using the Same ABN in PencilPay

When creating a new application, you can reuse the same ABN for multiple accounts as long as each has a different Trading Name.

Overview

When creating a new application, you can reuse the same ABN for multiple accounts as long as each has a different Trading Name.

Why the application fails

  • The application will only fail if you use the exact same Trading Name with the same ABN.

  • The system allows the same ABN to be linked to unlimited Trading Names, so you just need to ensure the Trading Name is unique.

How to create a new application with the same ABN

  1. On the application form, enter the customer’s ABN in the ABN field.

  2. Click Search to populate the list of existing Trading Names for that ABN.

  3. When the dropdown of Trading Names appears, do not select any of the existing Trading Names.

  4. Instead, click into the Trading Name field and manually type the Trading Name you want to use.

  5. Add a suffix (for example, “-NSW”, “-QLD”, “-Online”) or an equivalent identifier to make the Trading Name unique and easy to distinguish.

  6. Press Enter to confirm the new Trading Name.

  7. Continue completing the remaining fields and submit the account application as normal.

Example

  • Existing account: “Sample Foods Pty Ltd” with ABN 11 111 111 111.

  • New account (same ABN, different Trading Name): manually enter “Sample Foods Pty Ltd - NSW” and press Enter, then complete and submit the application.
